A Snapshot of the Season: Summer 2016
Though the Fall Equinox is just a week away, we are deep in the throes of Indian Summer and loving every moment of it. For Montauk locals and visitors alike, the end of the season means making the most of the perfect weather minus the crowds. What better time to take a look back at the magic of the past few months?!
From music, to art, to fashion, to just plain old fun in the sun – we’ve had some amazing happenings this summer and an epic season overall. Here are just a few of the highlights:
From the likes of Pamela Katz, Nelleke and Steve James manning (and wo-manning) the turntables to performances from Savoir Adore, Great Good Fine Ok, Powers, 88 Palms, and more, we’ve had the pleasure of featuring some of our favorite artists and DJs and dancing along to their tunes poolside while sipping the coldest of drinks of course.
We kicked things off with Lipstick Gypsy and Stretch Armstrong over Memorial Day Weekend. While our insane Corona Electric Beach 4th of July blowout welcomed Hotel Garuda and Virgil Abloh. And we went out with a bang with live performances and DJ sets from Dirty Vegas’s Steve Smith over Labor Day Weekend!
With all that sonic goodness, it was only fair that we provided proper eye candy as well. Our three artists in residence did not disappoint:
Grant Haffner set the tone for a bright and colorful summer with his intensely-hued acrylic paintings…
While Sean Spellman chilled things out a bit with his minimal quirky style inspired by his many travels…
And Matt Schwartz kept things sexy and cinematic with his whimsically washed polaroids of sun and surf…
For the second year running, Poolside Collective, our onsite boutique, brought out the finest curation of threads for your consumption with pop ups and events fitting of the unique #beachhousevibes they’ve created. Cienne and Tory Sport were just two of the guests of honor that stopped by. And who could forget those hilariously cheeky beach bags?!
Perhaps closest to our hearts though was last weekend’s second Annual East Coast Surf Therapy Event. Together with the Montauk community & COMMUNITY COLLABORATION, we enjoyed an evening of laughter, bonding, love, and pure stoke while raising money for A Walk On Water, an organization that brings the magic of Surf Therapy to children with special needs.
