ATHAPAINTS: Paint & Process


Although it’s hard to believe, we are in fact nearing the end of summer. We’re marking our third and final artist in residence by sharing the work being displayed along with some of the inspiration behind it. With names like Dewy, Whimsy, Free and Soak, these ethereal works almost embody the feelings of summer itself.

ATHAPAINTS is an constant color study by New York-based artist Atha James. It is the culmination of a life experienced through fragmented images meticulously collected, sorted and mood-boarded for on-going inspiration. The work aims to dignify thoughts, fears and emotion through layered hues and textures. In each frame, the work distills the sensory experience of place and time – disorienting the viewer with all-encompassing colors that in turn create a saturated dimension all their own. As a whole, the collection pulses with emotion and tells its own vibrant story.

By speaking to the art expert and novice alike, Atha’s paintings will have you dreaming of summer all year round, but we’re celebrating TONIGHT (Friday, August 14th) with an opening!
